Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Party
Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
